SUBSTANCE ABUSE/ADDICTIONS

Often the abuse of substances involves addiction, which is defined as a persistent and intense involvement with and stress upon a single behavior pattern.  This is exhibited with a minimization or even exclusion of other behaviors.  A primary characteristic of addiction is occupation with one object that controls behaviors, thus limiting their actions over time.  Addictive behaviors such as work, food, gambling, sex, money, intent and codependency may be addressed in therapy.
